Police Farewell Departing Officer

TRIBUTES TO WORK OF DETECTIVE POWER Detective O. Power, who has been stationed in Palmerston North for the past eight years and who is leaving next week on transfer to Auckland, was the guest of lioonur at a farewell function at the Police Station yesterday afternoon, when tribute was paid to his work and he was made the recipient of a presentation. Inspector H. Scott, who presided, said he had first met Detective Power at the Training Depot and had been impressed by his marked ability. This had been manifest throughout his career and would carry him on to promotion. In Palmerston North he had ably handled the Aliens Branch since the outbreak of the war, while as secretary of the Police Social Club he had done very good work. All joined in wishing him and Mrs. Power the best of health and prosperity, said Inspector Scott in handing the departing officer a silver tea service.

Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said he had first met Detective Power in Auckland and had then formed the opinion that ho was marked out for promotion. The speaker paid a tribute to the good relations that had existed between Detective Power and the uniform branch. They were sorry to part with Detective Power, who had proved an able

officer, said Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejohn, but Palmerston North’s loss would bo Auckland’s gain. Their guest was destined for a much higher position in the police force and in Auckland would find plenty of scopo for his ability.

Other speakers added their tributes and musical honours were accorded the departing officer. Replying, Detective Power said he had had a happy time in Palmerston North and had enjoyed his work hero. He spoke appreciatively of the relationships that had existed between him and other members of the police force, and thanked the speakers for their references to him. The presentation would serve to remind him and Mrs. Power of the happy days spent in Palmerston North.
