Restriction on Gifts Sent to Britain
(British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, xVLay 21. A restriction on gifts sent to Britaia is announced by the Board of Trade. Bonalide unsolicited gilts may be received from abroad by parcel post addressed to individuals. No parcel may exceed six pounds gross weight or contain more than two pounds of any one foodstuff. No permit or license is required in such cases and all parcels must be clearly marked as gifts. A gift cannot be regarded as unsolicited where it has been received as the result of some prior communication sent by the recipient to the donor. Moreover, the receipt of gifts at frequent intervals cannot be permitted. Where wellwishers abroad desire to send larger quantities of goods (which must not include rationed goods) they must first arrange for some responsible organisation in Britain, formed for charitable or similar purposes to be the recipient of such gifts. Application for & license must then be made to tho organisation which will be required to give an under taking that the goods will be consume 1 within that organisation.
