Another Successful Attack on Heligoland

DAYLIGHT RAID ON FRENCH POWER AND OIL STATIONS Received Friday, 12.30 a.m. LONDON, May 22. A small force of Bomber Command planes successfully surprise attacked the Heligoland naval base on Wednesday afternoon. One bomber is missing. The same afternoon a further force of Bomber Command planes with a large escort of fighters attacked the power station and oil refineries near Bethune (France). Enemy fighters intercepted shortly after the force crossed the coast.and a number of combats occurred, but the enemy was unable to prevent the success of the attack. Direct hits were observed on both objectives. Our fighters shot down four enemy fighters and our bombers ono. Six of our fighters and one bomber are missing.

An Air Ministry communique states that there was no enemy activity over Britain last night.
