No Winter Show This Year
ARMY MAY HAVE SHOWGROUNDS FOR LONG TIME There will be no Winter Show ia Palmerston North this June, as the military forces will still be in occupation of the grounds for some considerable time yet and possibly for the duration of the war. When this was mentioned by the president, Mr. B. E. Keiller, at yesterday’s meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, he appealed to members to continue membership. The finance committee had written the Army authorities setting out certain conditions for the use of the grounds and a reply was awaited. Mr. Keiller, answering an inquiry, said the question of holding the Spring Show on other grounds had not becu considered yet. The master of the annual Rugby gnrnn between Te Aute College and Palmerston North Boys’ High School was mentioned. Mr. C. E. Vile suggested that it be held on a Saturday and members issued with free tickets. Mr. Keiller doubted if the military autlfbrities would allow the game to bs played on the Showgrounds. It was decided to investigate the possibility of playing the match as usual, and a committee comprising Messrs. Keiller, Haydon, Batchelar and Hodder was set up to approach the schools and Rugby Union.
