City Silver Band

ANNUAL MEETING' There was a large attendance at the tenth annual meeting of the Palmerston North City Silver .Band, Mr. B. J. Jacobs presiding. It was decided that letters of congratulations, on their success in the recent local 'body elections be sent to the Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mausford and to Mr. j. T. J. Heatley, also Messrs E. ±L. -Smith and F. G. Opic (past executive officers of the band). The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. Mansford; president, Mr. Jacobs; vice-presidents, 20 were elected; lion, auditor, Mr. H. W. Mullanoy; lion, solicitor, Mr. F. G. Opie; lion, secretarytreasurer, Mr. B. Aoraham; executive, Mrs. H. E. Dal'by, Messrs G. Beattie, E. Low, E. liickerby, (J. McLinden, W. O’Hara, K. Stewart, C. Boy r ce, W. Williamson and A. Lester; City Council representative, Mr. Heatley. The chairman of committees (Mr. E. Low), in his report, stated that the year had been one of the most difficult in the history of the baud, which had the misxSrtuue to lose Captain McLeod, who resigned the position of conductor, and also several band members who are serving with the Forces. Mr. J. B. Thomson had been appointed conductor iu Captain McLeod's place and had been able to bring the band up to full .strength, and also maintain the strength of the junior bail'd. All engagements had been fulfilled and the band had become attached to the Homo Guard. The balance-sheet, showed a credit of £lll 18s 6d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The conductor (Mr. J. B. Thomson), in bis report on the activities over the past seven months, stated that during the summer season the baud gave 19 public performances over a period of 28 weeks, while a. quartette and individual members assisted with concerts at the Opera. House. The playing strength of the senior band had been maintained by the introduction of members from the junior band. There were now 24 senior players'and 1G juniors.
