War Needs Come First
MELBOURNE, May 21. A warning of increasing interference with the supply of clothing and foodstuffs to Australians because of the demands of war industry was given by the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr. l’adden, last, night. Mr. Fadden said that Australia must
inevitably frailer a much greater degree of rationalisation of industry than there bad yet been reason to foresee. “Vanishing point may be reached in some civil requirements,” ho said. “We are determined to make the maximum effort to meet war orders. The possible shortage ot : foodstuffs applies particularly to tinned goods, ns Australia is dependent on the United States for supplies of tinplate.”
