(From Our Own Correspondent.) Airs. K. J. Daniel is making a good recovery, following a serious operation at the Pahiatua Public Hospital. Trooper R. F. Thomasen has returned front the Territorial camp at Foxton, where he underwent three months’ training with the Wellington-West Coast Mounted Rifles. Mr. and Mrs. V. Cottle and family, ot Te Horo, are the guests of Airs. W* Thomasen. Master Colin Clarke is the guest of Mrs. J. P. Petersen. At a recent meeting of supporters of the National Party a local branch was formed. Mr. J. L. l>aysh was elected president and Air. W. W. Drysdale secretary. Essential business is now being attended to by the committee. The Nireaka third grade Rugby team played their first home game of tho season against Pahiatua on Saturday and won by nine points to nil. Tries were scored for Nireaka by L. Hansen^ B. Davidson and B. Petersen. Tho referee was Mr, B. Rogers. Nireaka fielded a heavy pack of forwards who dominated the game which was not spectacular on account of a greasy bail# Nireaha should finish higher up tho championship ladder this season man it has for many seasons past. The first of a series of weekly card tournaments held under the auspices of the Patriotic Committee eventuated on Saturday evening. The crowd was not large. The prizes for the evening, donated by Mrs. C. J. Connor, were won as follow: Ladies, Airs. John Drysdale 1* Mrs. H. Nordell consolation; men, Air. H. Nordell 1, Mr. Jack Petersen consolation. The Home Guard parade of Monday evening last was the most poorly attended of any yet held. The signalling squad was coached by Lance-Corporal C. H. Mills aud made good progress. A field parade will take place on Baturday morning next, the parade being eitbel at Kaiparoro or Putara.
