(From Our Own Correspondent.) Personal Miss J. Woods is spending the school holidays iu Wellington. Mrs. A. Doughty is at present visiting Wellington to see. her son who is in camp at Trentham. Mrs. J. Cawood and her son arc on a holiday visit to Cambridge. Mr. R. W. S. Evans and Mr. Smith, of Weraroa, have been visiting this district collecting native shrubs, ferns, etc., to transplant to other parts oi New Zealand. Mrs. S. J. Martin and family, oi Marton Block, are holidaying at WaiKanae. Mrs.' and Miss Johnstone are Wavcrley visitors staying with Mrs. Benscmann. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Mclntyro and Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Pratt are visiting Taumaranui. Mrs. A. Cowlc and her daughter, of Wellington, are staying with Mrs. McNicol. Mrs. Alf Prince’s friends will regret to learn that sho is confined to bed, having injured tier back in a fall. Last week Mrs. Bottcher was entertained by her family and friends at a party in honour of her 72nd birthday. Her son-in-law, Mr. D. McNicol con veyed birthday greetings tio Mrs. Bottcher, who cut the birthday cake made by her daughter. Members of tho Apiti Troop of the 6th Mounted Rifles returned home last week after completing their 3 months’ Territorial training, and all look well and seem to have enjoyed their life in camp. Mr. M. Stewart is returning to Camp for a further period of training. Privates Jim Elliot, Syd Cook and Colin Malone all spent the week-end in Apiti on leave from Trentham. Privates D. Kearney and G. Doughty and Trooper W. Hart returned to Trentham On Friday last. The ladies of the Apiti district will this week send forward 15 gift parcels for soldiers. The Table Flat ladies have sent in 4 parcels and two extra cakes. Mrs. J. Bigham, of Waipukarau, and Miss I. Doughty have been visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Doughty. W.D.F.U. At the May ineeting of the W.D.F.U. Mrs. C. Mclntyre presided and all present stood in silent sympathy with the relatives of tho late Mr. Donald McMurtrie. Mesdames C. .Searle, J. O’Hagan and E. Schmidt were new members welcomed. It was decided to hold future meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Programmes were arranged for the next six mouths. Mrs. T. Nix was appointed delegate to conference and the remits were discussed. It was decided to have a plant exchange, the proceeds being for W.D.F.U. funds. First prizes will be given for tho monthly competitions and yearly points prizes. Next month's

competitions are for best flower, soup plate of marigolds, four ginger nuts, and for the High School girls, best piece of brasswork. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames J. 11. Cowan and G. Watkins. Competition results as follow: —Best bloom, Mrs. Mclntyre I. Mrs. J. R. Stewart 2 and 3; vase of flowers, Mrs. R. V. Stewart 1 and 3, Mrs. Watkins 2; knitted balaclavas, Mrs. L. Martin I, 2 and 3; scones, Mrs. G. Watkins 1,2 and 3. R.S.A. Mr. W. McKenzie presided at a meeting of tho Apiti li.S.A. committee and welcomed Mr. C. Boyce, the new member. Thanks were expressed Rev. Baxter, Rev. Thompson, Rev. Fleury, Mr. C. B. McClure and all others who assisted in the Anzac Day services both at Kimbolton and Apiti. Final arrangements were made tor the annual reunion. Neighbouring and kindred associations are to be invited and any Service man on final leave will be cordially welcomed. Particulars will be advertised. Gift Party Miss Madge McKay, who is shortly to bo married, was the guest of honour at a largely attended public evening arranged by Miss Doris Prince and other local young people. Miss Sixtus and partner won the Lucky Spot Foxtrot and Miss Joyce White and -Mr. C. Doughty were the winners of the Gay Gordons. Mr. C. Spcuco wished Miss McKay every happiness in her married life and assured Mr. Charles Bains that he was making an excellent choice. He then asked the bride-to-be to accept .the collection of gifts from her Apiti friends. Musical honours were accorded the young couple, and Master Ron Osborne presented Miss McKay with a floral posy and Mr. Bains with a buttonhole. Supper was served by the young friends of the guests. Farewell to Trooper W. Kart Private W. Han, of Umutoi, was farewelled ou Thursday evening. Mr. W. McKenzie conveyed the good wishes of the members of the R.S.A. while Mr. Colin Searle, who has known Trooper Hart for many years, spoke for the residents of Umutoi and Utuwai who all wish. Trooper Hart bon. voyage and a safe return to his home. Mr. W. McKay then presented the guest with a shaving outfit and a fountain pen from his friends who wish him well in his new undertaking. Mr. McKay also expressed tho thanks of the Patriotic committee to tho organisers of tho function for giving them the opportunity to farewell Trooper Halt at the same function. Several of Trooper Hart’s friends from Feilding and Palmerston North were present. E.P.S,. . Mr. H. G. Mapson presided at a well attended meeting of E.P.S. committees and explained that a combined meeting of ladies and gentlemen, was called iu order to appoint committees for food, supplies, etc., accommodation for evacuees, transport and also for medical aid should such bo necessary in any time of emergency. Mrs. A. A. Corpc, representing Utuwai Women’s Institute, asked if a separate E.P.S. committee could be formed for that part of the district and the meeting favoured the suggestion as a committee (here could much more easily make necessary arrangements, thus saving time and petrol. All committees were appointed with power to add as it was iolt that some committees,, particularly the medical aid should have the assistance of those interested and capable of giving practical assistance. It, is hoped to arrange a first aid lecturo for next Saturday. A beuzine allowance is to bo applied for as the committee will have to canvass the district.
