Franks, Elizabeth Street, Palmerston North, have received cabled advice from their two sons, Jack and Jim, that they have been safely evacuated from Greece and are welL A resolution of condolence with tho widow and family of the late Mr. J. B. McEwen, of Wellington, a prominent ligure in the dairy industry, was carried by the executive of tho Manuwatu and West Coast Dairy Companies Association yesterday. Mr. Allan Tong, manager of Hawke ’s Bay Amusements, Limited, returned from Wellington on Wednesday after having completed arrangements in connection with, his transfer to the Regent Theatre, Palmerston North. Mr. Tong ’s new appointment takes effect from today week. Mr. V. Clouston, manager of the Regent Theatre, leaves Palmerston North on Thursday next to become exhibition manager to New Zealand Theatres, Limited, with headquarters in Wellington. During his term in Palmerston North Mr. Clouston has made many friends and will be missed, but is to be congratulated ou his new appointment. Private Ivan Ashley Moss, whose death in action was reported in a casualty list published yesterday, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Moss, Botanical Road, Palmerston North. Forty-seven years of age, he was born in Foxton and spent some time in Palmerston North as a younger man. He unlisted in Wanganui and left for overseas prior to last Christmas. He was not married. Private George A. Robertson was met by members of the staff of the ‘ ‘ Manawatu Daily Times’’ and presented with a silver cigarette case, suitably inscribed. Mr. R. H. Biliens, managing editor, who made the presentation, eulogised the faithful service of the departing member of the staff, these remarks being endorsed by Messrs. E. R. Harris (associate manager) and R. W. Priest (secretary). Members of the clerical staff later entertained Mr. Robertson at a happy little supper party.
