Konini Women’s Institute

There was a fair attendance of members at tho Alay meeting of the Konini Women’s Institute. Airs. Sargisson was in the chair and the meeting opened in the usual way. The thought for the month was: “Strong in Faith, we Face To-morrow.” Alembers stood in silence as a mark of respect for Air. 11. Reeve. Three new members were welcomed by the president. Airs. Hirst gave a very interesting report on the council meeting held at Pahiatua. -A very busy afternoon was spent by all in the making of old linen into handkerchiefs, coverlets and hussiffs. Wool was also distributed amongst members. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the hostesses, Alesdames Barnes and Connor. The meeting closed in the usual way. MANGAMUTU The Alangamutu Women’s Institute celebrated its seventh birthday last Wednesday by holding a very successful dance in the Mangamutu Hall. There was a good attendance, everj-one having a happy time dancing to music supplied by Air. Jackson. A Alonte Carlo waltz was won by Aliss Gun and partner, and musical extras were played by Alisses Lawson and Alilet. A delicious homemade supper was served by members of the institute. Two popular mouth-organ solos were played by Airs. Kevin O’Brien and Air. Quentin Holdaway. During the evening an attractive birthday cake which had been baked and iced by Airs. H. Cotter and Airs. L. Heayns respectively was raffled to raise funds for the soldieis’ parcels. Air. Jack Hercock was the winner.

Airs. L. Heayns, on behalf of the Alangamutu Soldiers’ Farewell Committee, presented Aliss Alilet, who is leaving the district, with a small token of appreciation for the help she had given them. Alembers of the Women’s Institute also wish to thank the ALC. and doorkeepers, together with Air. Donald Heayns for the use of his microphone and Airs. AlcCardle and Aliss Dick for displaying and selling tickets for the cake.
