Labour Candidates for Council

MRS. E. M. HARROD Mrs. E. M. Harrod, a Labour candidate for the City Council and Hospital Board, has for years been an active worker in different organisations for the betterment of civic conditions. Mrs. Harrod has been, connected since its inception with the Manawatu Cooperative Society, and in addition to being a member of the management committee is a foundation member and past president of the Co-operative Women’s Guild. For many years she has been connected with the Te Awe Awe Scout Com mittee and was for some time president of the Hokowhitu School Women’s Com mittee, while,, as a member of the local Patriotic Committee and of the Lady Galway Guild, she is closely associated with patriotic activities in the city. Mrs. Harrod’s experience and common sense and her woman ’s outlook on many of ous local body problems should prove an asset, both on the City Council and on the Hospital Board. MR. B. SALMONS Mr. B. Salmons, one of Labour’s candidates for the City Council, is a returned soldier, and to-day takes an active part in the Home Guard as a platoon commander and as a member of the Home Guard Sub-area Committee, which body he represents on the Area Committee. For many years ho has been associated with Friendly Society work as an officer of the Druids’ Lodge. In the industrial field Mr. Salmons has always played an active part and is the president of the Manawatu General Workers’ Union, as well as being a member of the Trades Council and the Labour Representation Committee. He has been a resident of Palmerston North for some 35 years, having always taken an active interest in any move for the city’s benefit* and his election as a member of the City Council should undoubtedly be in the best interests of the electors.
