Women’s Institutes
ASHHURST Mrs. Currie presided in May and visiting members from the Waiata Institute were welcomed. A bring and buy stall held in aid of institute funds did good business. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Forlong who has been laid aside by illness. Mrs. Barlthrop, of Feilding, ably demonstrated floral work. Competition for apple cake resulted:—Mrs. Currie 1, Mrs. Holmes 2, Mrs. Sowerbv 3. Junior class. —Shortbread, Miss Dobson 1, Miss I. Wood roof e 2; flower, Mrs. Tremewan 1, Mesdames Woodroof and H. Fairless (equal). A competition held was won by Mrs. Bleakley. Competition for next month: —Seniors, oven cloth made from sugar bag; juniors, best worked table centre. Next meeting a talk on home remedies and Red Cross work to be given by Mesdames Flowers and Mullins. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Hewitt, Schnell, Mullins and Richards. Hostesses for next meeting are Mesdames B. Fairless, Smith, Mfs. and Miss Woodroofe.
