Makino

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. N. Christensen, of Wellington, was a recent visitor to Mr. and Mrs. W. D. R. Baker and Mrs. Douglas of Wellington, was also a week-end visitor to Mr. and Mrs. Baker. Mr. S. Schricber, who has been visiting Otorahanga and other northern districts, has returned to his home. Mrs. Tonks, of Wellington, was a recent visitor to her daughter, Mrs. R. W. Humphrey, of Mangoano Road. Mr. and Mrs. C. Petersen, Kai-Iwi-liave been spending a holiday with, the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. Petersen. Miss V. Petersen is spending a holiday with friends at Hastings. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. R. Baker will be pleased to know that their daughter, Beverley, is progressing favourably after her recent accident, when she fell from a moving car and sustained head injuries which necessitated her removal to hospital and the insertion of several stitches. Mrs. W. E. Baker is a visitor to Auckland as the guest of her daughter, Mrs. G. Walker. Mrs. Kelly and her son, „of Wellington, are visitors to Mr. and Mrs. W. Toohey. Cards The fortnightly cards run under the auspices of the hall committee was held on Saturday last, but owing to the somewhat rough weather conditions there was a much smaller attendance than usual. The prizes, which were donated bv Mrs. A. Wishnowskv and Mr. A. E. Pearson were won as follows: Ladies, Miss Schultz 1, Miss J. Wish-, nowskv (sealed). Men, Mr. W. D. R. Baker" 1, Mr T. A. Slialders (sealed). Miss N. Wishnowsky and Mr. W. D. R. Baker will be in charge at the next evening. The proceeds were donated to the local boys’ overseas fund. Presentation A happy time was spent on Wednesday afternoon, the occasion being a welcome home and presentation to Mr. and Airs. Beg. Hills, who were recently married in Wellington. Dancing to music supplied by Mr. Wright was enjoyed by the younger folk, while the non-dancers enjoyed a game of euchre, the winners of this being Mrs. Moray and Mr. W. ’ Reid. Several novelty dances were enjoyed, the winners being as follows: —Lucky Spot waltz, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. R. Baker; statute waltz, Mr. and Mrs. Reg. Hills; Lucky Gay Gordons, Mrs. R, Hills and Mr. W. C. Hills; Monte Carlo, Miss Gray and Mr. 11. Gray. Just before supper was served by a willing band of helpers, Mrs. Baker called on the guests of honour to come forward and to Mrs. Hills, who was wearing a frock of pale lavender taffeta, she presented a floral posy. Mrs. Baker then asked them both to accept a tea waggon with the best wishes of everyone for their future happiness. Air. Hills feelingly responded on behalf of his bride and himself, and thanked the organisers and everyone else for giving them such an enjoyable evening. •
