Preparing for Basketball In the Manawatu

The thirteenth annual meeting of the Manawatu Basketball Association was held in the Y.W.C.A. club rooms last evening, Miss C. Vautier presiding. The annual report stated, inter alia, that as in previous seasons a high standard of play had been maintained and teams had successfully adopted the amended rules of 1039. Many players and referees had qualified as referees of the N*.Z. Referees’ Association. These players and referees were to be congratulated on their successes and the initiative and interest of tfiese members had undoubtedly been responsible for another very successful season. The finance of the association was in a satisfactory condition despite debts incurred during the Easter tournament for the provision of new uniforms. Thanks jwore due to Miss j. M. Barrie (treas-, Hirer) for her efforts in this direction. The association was indeed fortunate! last season to welcome Mr. Gorringe and obtain the services of another New Zealand referee. Thanks were due to the High School Board of Governors for use of the Technical School grounds in Grey Street, the Y.W.C.A. for use of rooms, Mr. Neilsen for auditing the books and accounts, Mr. Sinclair for donating subsidiary trophies and donation to association funds, the ladies’ social committee for assisting in afternoon teas, the j press for it 3 courtesy in publishing fix- j tures and results, the referees and all 1 those who so willingly gave their assist- j ance to the association. I Officers were elected for the ensuing |year as follow:—Patron, Mr. R. Sin- : clair, junr.; president, Miss C. W. Vautier (re-elected); vice-presdents, Mesdames H. M. Scott and W. M. Sexton; secretary, Miss F. Ross (re-elect-ed); treasurer, Miss J. M. Barrie (reelected).
