Britain to Take 160,000 Tons of N.Z. Cheese

Fer Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 8. The Minister of Marketing, Mr. J. G. Barclay, announces that advice has been received that the Food Ministry in Britain is prepared to make a contract with the New Zealand Government for 160,000 tons of cheese in the 1941-42 production season. The production of such a large quantity would mean considerable reorganisation within the dairy industry, said Mr. Barclay. He was sure that the dairy farmers would again rise to the occasion. While emphasising that their paramount desire was for the production of cheese, the Minister mentioned that the Food Ministry also desired the maximum production of dried milk in New Zealand. Therefore the change-over in plans had taken that further factor into account.
