Sympathy for sufferers in the recent Manawatu River flood was expressed at Monday evening’s meeting of the Fcild-
ing Chamber of Commerce. The levies on the Fcilding borough for tho Palmerston North Hospital for , the current year total £1906 2s, compared with £23OS 10s Sd last year. At the statutory annual meeting of the Fcilding Domain Board last evening Air. T. L. Seddon was re-elected chairman. Tho board controls Ivowhai Park. The following Feilding ladies are asked to assemble at Hokowhi'tu Park an 2 p.m. to-morrow and are asked to bring both blue and black uniforms where possible:—Alisses Z. Knowles, P. Simpson, J. "Anything further about a maternity home or cottage hospital for Feilding'?" asked Cr. P. G. Guy, at last evening’s meeting of the Feilding Borough Council, of Cr. Smith, the borough’s representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board. “No," said Cr. Smith, who stated that he had deemed it proper to defer 'pressing for this matter in face of the commitments the board had been obliged to assume in consequence of the war. At Monday evening's meeting of the Fcilding Chamber of Commerce correspondence was received from the Railway Department with regard to the chamber’s representations concerning a warning device at the Taonui railway level crossing. The department advised that the crossing was 30th on the list, of those crossings which warranted attention but was not listed among those requiring urgent action. An assurance was given tiiat the matter was under consideration. Congratulations were extended to the AJayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) at last evening’s meeting of tho Feilding Borough Council on his re-election unopposed. Cr. A. C. McCorkindale paid a tribute to Mr. Seddon’s work on behalf of the town and was supported by other councillors, a resolution expressing warmest congratulations being carried with applause. The Mayor returned thanks and reminded councillors that they shared whatever credit feil to him. At the Feilding Miniature Rifle Cluib’s shoot this week scores were registered as follow: —E. Tho many friends of Air. and Airs. F. P. Fawcett and family, of Fcilding, will regret to learn that they have received official advice that their son, Pilot Officer Nicol Fawcett, who was reported missing from, air activities over Germany in. August last, is now presumed dead. Pilot Officer Fawcett was among those young men who went Home to join the Royal Air Force on a short service commission and early qualified to play a distinguished part in aerial warfare. He was a pupil of the Fcilding Agricultural High {School.
