Four floodlights have boon erected at the Alanchester Street School grounds for the benefit of Home Guard parades, j The Feilding advisory committee of the National War Funds Council has appointed Air. James Knight to represent it on the Feilding and District Rehabilitation Committee. The Board of Alauagcrs of the Fcilding Agricultural High School lias appointed Air. A. J. Baigent, AL.A., to tne vacancy on the school staff caused by the death of Mr. H. G. Whitehead. Air. Baigent entered Canterbury Colleg* as a junior university scholar. He took his B.A. degree in 193 U, being then awarded a university senior scholarship iu English, and graduated AI.A. in the following year with first-class hctfiours in English. Later he obtained a certificate of honours at AI.A. standard in Latin. He also holds a diploma of education and lias passed sections of the B.Com. degree. Air. Baigent has had experience in teaching a considerable range of subjects, and as coach and participant iu games and iu debating, library and dramatic activities, lie has represented Canterbury College at cricket, debating and long-distance running. At present ho is on the staff of the Palmerston North Boys’ High Bchool.
