Australian Petrol Ration Cut by Half

Received Thursday, 12.10 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 7. Private motoring has been reduced to 40 miles weekly under the new Australian petrol ration scale, details of which were announced by Senator Mcßride to-day. The minimum private monthly allowance from June 1 is five gallons for 8 h.p. caxs and the maximum 11 gallons for caxs over 30 h.p. This ration is half the amount allowed when rationing was introduced in October. Motorists at present obtaining an extra ration under “business and private” fuel licenses are being cut 20 per cent, and will be required to answer a questionnaire stating how much will he used respectively for business and pleasure.
