Miss Margaret Runnicles, who has been in Auckland for sonic months, is holidaying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Holmes Runnicles, Carroll Street.

The death occurred at Tauranga ou Saturday of Mr. William Henry Ebbett, an ex-resident of Foxton, and father of Mesdames H. B. W. Osborne, of Foxton, and L. Lynd, of Foxton Beach. Former residents of Palmerston North, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fearon and their family w r ho have been at Eltham for several years in the railway service, are now transferred here to help in the shortage caused by enlistments.

The death occurred at Dunedin last night after a brief illness of Sergeant Frank William Johnsen, aged 52. He began his police career at Wellington in 1920, serving later at Onehuuga, Whakatane and Mangaweka before going to Dunedin in 1935. Sergeant Johnsen served, nearly four years in the Great War, earning the Military Medal for gallantry. Mr. W. M. Sexton, accompanied bv Mrs. Sexton, left Palmerston North yesterday morning for Christchurch to attend the capping ceremony at Canterbury College, where their daughter, Miss Moya Sexton, is one of tho graduates. Mr. Sexton will also visit the six main centres of the South Island in his capacity as president of the New Zealand Federation of Drapers, Clothiers, and Boot Betailers. Mr. and Mrs. William McPherson, of Carterton, have been advised that their eldest son, Sergeant-Observer Douglas John McPherson, aged 23, has been killed in an aircraft accident over Scotland. Beforo joining the Koyal New Zealand Air Force, Mr. McPherson was employed by the Social Security Department. He commenced duty at Palmerston North on October 17, 1938, and prior to that was stationed at the head office of tho Department in Wellington. Mr. McPherson reported for duty at Weraroa on May 7, 1940, and after receiving training there and at Ohakea, proceeded overseas early m October, 1940. “Mac” was well known and made many friends during his stay in Palmerston North. In addition to his parents he leaves a brother and sister.
