Caring for Crippled Children

In. the absence of Mr. W. G. Black (president), Mr. H. M. Scott presided over the May meeting of the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children. Society held in the City Council Chambers, there being a small attendance. Reports and balance-sheets of the Woodville and Dannevirlte sub-branches 'were before the meeting and approved. The welfare officer (Miss E. Aitk-"—* reported having paid 42 visits, 13 having been received, a distance of 551 miles having been travelled. No new cases had been reported this month, the total number registered, to date being 169 of which (the society is working with 148. The report .of the Girls’ Club was also commended. It was reported that Dr. Butchers (Director of Correspondence Schools) who was present at the Post Guide Conference in Wellington, -was sending one of his teachers <to visit all crippled children on his roll. Aliss Colebrook would be in the district the first two weeks of next term.—The secretary was authorised to inform Dr. Butcher that the branch would be pleased to cooperate. Accounts amounting to £9 Is Id were parsed for payment. Recommendations with regard to various cases were before the meeting for approval.
