General Freyberg to Lead Forces in Crete

UNIFIED COMMAND ON STRATEGIC ISLAND United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May 5. Major-General B. C. Freyberg, officer commanding the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, has been appointed commander-in-chief of the Allied Forces in Crete. This was announced in an order of the day by the Greek Prime Minister, M. Tsouderous, which stated that, in order effectively to conduct the struggle, Allied troops would be placed under a single command. The order of the day concluded with the words: “Let unity be our watchword and the basis of our strength.”
