Clydeside Latest Raider Objective
British Bombers Paste Mannheim MANY LARGE FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Tuesday, Midnight. LONDON, May 6. An Air Ministry communique states: “Enemy aircraft operated on a large scale over the British Isles during the night. The main objective was the Clydeside. “Attacks were also made on the Merseyside and Northern Ireland. Bombs were dropped in many places elsewhere, particularly in north-east and south-west England. The damage was not extensive but there were a number of casualties at Clydeside and Merseyside. “Seven enemy aircraft are known to have been destroyed, one of which was over northern France. “British bombers attacked targets in western Germany, the chief of which was the great industrial centre of Mannheim.” Large quantities of incendiaries and high explosives were dropped on Mannheim and many large fires and explosions were observed.
