Jury Disagrees. Ia the Palmerston North Supreme Court yesterday William John Wright, shopkeeper, of Palmerston North, aged 43, stood his trial in respect of alleged offeuces against a girl, but after a retirement of over four hours the jury was unable to come to a unanimous de cision so the Hon. Mr. Justice Blair discharged them and orde-ed a new trial on Monday next. Gift to W.W.S.A. A generous gesture on the part of the Palmerston North Rotary Club has been the gift of a drum and four fifes to the Women’s War Service Auxiliary to inspire them in their marching. One memlber is already an efficient drummer and no doulbt in the not far-distant future the Auxiliary’s own band will make its first public appearance. Driftwood at Manawatu Heads. As the result of the Jieavy flood in the Manawatu, the river flat at the Heads is a veritable timber yard. Not in the memory of old residents has sc much wood and debris been strewn on the flat, and yesterday morning there was an animated scene with motorlorries, drays and hand carts all fully occupied in replenishing the wood supply for the winter. A fair number of dead stock is also lying around.
