Patangata Damage
WAIPUKURAU, May 5. Considerable damage to roads be* tween Waipukurau and Porangahau has been reported to the Patangata County Council, but the full extent of the damage is not likely to be known until communications are re-established. However, it is known that Hunter's road, branching eff the main road between Wanstead and Porangahau, and Stoddart’s road, branching off the main road at Wansteaci, are blocked by slips. The Lake road to Mr T. Whelch's property was under water in parts, and the Wallingford Creek, which flooded adjacent country to a depth of nearly 12 feet, completely covered the decking and handrails of two bridges which mayor may not be damaged. On the Wallington Bush road water was two feet over the top of Morrah’s Bridge yesterday morning. In the Omakere district no damage was reported, but water was over the Long Range road at Clareinch. The rainfall at Wanstead during Saturday night and Sunday morning was just on nine inches. Arlington Station, between Waipukurau and Wanstead, is reported to have lost some sheep. The only damage reported !n the Waipukurau County Council so far is a slip on Robinson’s Hill, near Tourere, which is the source of the Wanstead and Marakeke streams. The Marakekc stream rose in high flood and covered the handrails of Fox’s Bridge, which lies in a dip at the Rangitoto road turrinff. The stream also flooded the Marakeke golf links.
