Axis Ships Hit by Bombs in Mediterranean

DESTROYER SUNK LONDON, May 4. On Friday, R.A.F. bombers attacked a convoy of enemy merchant ships being escorted by destroyers in the Mediterranean, and direct hits were made on three merchant vessels oi 12,000, 8,000, and 4.000 tons respectively, says to-day’s R.A.F. Middle East communique. The sinking of an enemy destroyer in the Mediterranean is recorded in an earlier Middle East communique, which states: "Our bombers attacked an enemy destroyer and a merchantman. Three direct hits were registered on the destroyer and one on the merchantman. Subsequent reconnaissance proved that both had been sunk.”
