PERSONAL

The Australian Prime Minister (Mr. R. G. Menzies) left London for America on Friday last. Trooper H. C. Reid, a despatch rider with the Mounted Kiiles in camp at Tauhereuikau, and a sou of Mr. H. B. Reid, of Palmerston North, sustained concussion as a result of an accident during night manoeuvres and is at present in hospital, where he is making good progress. The sudden death occurred in a Wellington private hospital of John Laughton, aged 69, Dominion Secretary of Druids, and a prominent bowler. He was a former New Zealand rinks champion. While attending the Marlborough Easter bowling tournament, Mr. Laughton became ill and entered hospital where he had been since. He had practically recovered and was convalescent when he suffered a fatal collapse.
