In criticising the speech made by the Secretary of State for India, Mr Amery, in Parliament on April 23, Mr Gandhi said: “I admit that there is unfortunately an unbridgeable gulf between Congress and the Moslem League. Why don’t British statesmen admit that this, after all, is a domestic quarrel, Let them withdraw from India, and I promise that Congress, the Moslem League, and other parties will find that it is in their interest to come together and devise a home-made solu* tion for the government of India.” A message from Bombay says that the police fired on rioters during HinduMoslem disturbances. The troops are standing by as the tension between the two sects rises. Two were killed and 57 injured in the riots.
