(From Our Own Correspondent.) I On Alonday evening Mr. Grenville j Doughty, who has gone into camp at Trontham, was given a farcivell party 1 at tho home of his sister and brother-in-law, Air. and Airs. J. Cawmod, Norsewood Road. Some 40 friends were present and musical items and dancing were enjoyed. Alcssrs Owen Watkins aud Eric Clifton gave songs aud led a community sing. Messrs. R. Aluir, T. K. AlcLean and D. Alalone played for dancing. Airs. Cawood served supper and was assisted by her mother, Airs. A. Doughty, and sister, Airs. G. Howse, of Hamilton. « Alethodist Guild The ladies of the Alethodist Guild met at the parsonage. Alesdames J. H. Thompson, W. R. Pratt, H. A. Wildbore, L. A. Guy, J. F. lv. Jensen, E. F. Gould, L. A. Alartiu, C.. McKay; Misses G. Dig by, B. Churcher and N. Churcher were present. Airs. Pratt extended a welcome to Airs. Thompson and expresses the wish that Rev. aud Airs. Thompson would be happy during their residence j in Apiti. Airs. Thompson accepted the ( office of Guild president. Airs. L. Alar- { tin and Airs. John Jensen were the j winners of competitions. Anzac Service Apiti was favoured with a fine day j for Anzac Day and there was a large gathering. A lengthy parade headed by the Returned Soldiers, followed by the Apiti I-lome Guard Unit, and the school children and teachers were led by the Feilding Pipe Band under Pipe-Major Pike. The band played a lament at the War Aleraorial while Alcssrs. W. AlcKenzie and W. 11. Watson, placed the R.S.A. wreath in memory of fallen comrades. The service at the hall was conducted by Rev. A. Baxter, assisted by Rev. J. H. Thompson. All stood in silence as Mr. C. AJ. Stanley sang “Requiem.” The speaker was Air. C. B. McClure M.C., sub-area commander ot the Home Guard. He spoke on physical courage as the will to “dare,” on moral courage as the will to “do,” aud spiritual courage as the will to “smile” and illustrated his remarks by quoting examples of courage as he urged his listeners never to be down hearted, and also to remember those returned men, who to-dav are still sufferers from disabilities and wounds received when fighting for us in the last war- Members of the Women’s Institues and Women’s Division served afternoon tea. Personal Mrs. A. T. Mclntyre, of Whatatutu, Gisborne, has been visiting her mother, Airs. Duncan. Aliss J. Hughes arid Air. Hugh Stanley, of Wellington, have been the guests of Airs. C. Af. Stanley. Air. and Airs. S. Clark, of Pahiatua, are staying with Mrs. C. C. Osborne. Airs. T. H. Furnell and her daughter, Airs. T. Brazier, and family, have been on a holday visit to North Auckland. Harvest Festival St. Luke’s Anglican Church celebrated Harvest Festival at the morning service on Sunday, when the church was decorated with the harvest gifts. The Rev. F. E. Fleury conducted the service. The gifts will be sent to All Saints’ Children’s Home, in Palmerston North. The Rev. A. Baxter welcomed the members of the Apiti R.S.A. to an An zac service at the Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning which was attended by a large congregation. Next Sunday afternoon the service will be conducted by the Rev. G. W. Hunt, of Alirimar, Wellington. Golf The Apiti Golf Club’s season opeued with a pleasant calm day, when a good muster of players took part in bogey competitions, tho trophies being won by Airs. D. C. Buckifian and AY. At. Duncan. The president, Air. T. K. AlcLean, declared the season open. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdames W. H. Watson, T. K. AlcLean, Buekmau and helpers.
