Unshakeable Faith in Resurgence of Free Greece
“FACE DARK DAYS UNITED IN DIGNITY AND PATIENCE” Received Sunday, 11 p.m. ATHENS, April 27. It is believed here that the capital may be in Greek hands only for a matter of hours. Allied uniforms are now rarely seen. Communications from Athens to the fighting line are cut off. “All wherofor we have toiled for generations is destroyed. AVe face dark days united in dignity and patience.” The newspaper Rpoini thus typifies the proud courage of the Greeks hi their hour of agony. Ail the newspapers and the radio echo unshakeable faith in the resurgence of free Greece. Elmikon says: “We looked and smiled at death. We fought like David against Goliath. Now we arm our hearts with patience.” Asyrmatos says: “We face our adversity. We stay here because we are masters of this bind sanctified by the blood of our forefathers, our brothers and our children.” Estia says: “Cruel days await Greece. We are all convinced that these sufferings will not be for long.” The Athens radio said: “Hold Greece in your hearts. Greece will revive. Greece will be great again.”
