Forest Fires in Eight States

Received Tuesday, 7.20 p.m. NEW YORK, April 21. Forest fires in eight eastern States continued to take toll of woodlands, marshes and farms parched by the unseasonably warm and dry weather. Alost of the fires are smaller than yesterday, when they swept over 100,000 acres, destroyed many dwellings and caused several millions of dollars’ damage. Stubborn blazes continue to challenge the fire-fighters in New Jersey, New York, Alassacliusetts and Vermont. New Jersey has been hardest hit, particularlv in the vicinity <»f Lakewood, where 50 dwellings were completely destroyed and, numerous others damaged.
