STRONG FIELD AT NEW PLYMOUTH GATHERING Securing a possible, 11. Quarterman retained his title as the North Island (West Coast) champion against a strong field at a championship meeting hold at tho New Plymouth Gun Club’s grounds, Frankley Road, on Saturday. The weather was dull and cloudy and unfavourable for shooting. Visitors were present from To Kuiti, Piopio, Palmerston North, Otorohanga, Wanganui, Stratford, Hawera and other towns. Results wero : —Eye-opener, five birds (35 entries): F. Farmer, It. Carter, H. S. Kyle, A. Flavell, R. Allan, W. Dippie, A. E. Brown, D. Ballantyne, T. Br ogden, L. Pennial, O. Benton, A. Hammond and J. Low all secured tho possible. £SO handicap, 20 birds (30 entries): — L. Walker and L. Pennial (both 20) divided the first prize, while M. Pratt, B. Hughes, A. Flavell, IT. Quarterman, J. Dunlop and W. Dippie secured ft). Trophy match, 15 birds (32 entries): —J. Dunlop, >S. Pullen, C. Hodges, jnr., W. Dippie. E. Cumbertson and L. Walker tied for first place. After shooting another five birds, R. Cullibertson and S. Pullen were left, S. Pullen winning the shoot-off after firing at a further 13 birds. Double rise, live pairs (18 entries): — C.
