Hon. Mr. Justice Blair will preside at the session of the Supreme Court commencing in Palmerston .North on May 5. It was announced yesterday that the following had been elected to the central executive of the New Zealand Labour Party: Hon. T. Brindlo, M.L.C., Messrs. L. Eddy, J. O. Johnson, P. Dowse and Mrs. Bemple. Mr. It. MeKeen, M.P., was runner-up. At the New Zealand Universities’ tournament held in Wellington over Easter, Mr. John Cope, of Palmerston North and of Victoria University, Wellington, was successful in winning the singles and doubles tennis titles and has been awarded a New Zealand University ‘‘blue.’’ The retirement at the end of April of Mr. W. R. McKean, Auckland’s principal stipendiary magistrate, is announced. Mr. McKean was appointed to the Bench in 1919 going to Auckland in the following year and he became principal stipendiary magistrate there three years ago. Best wishes to Messrs T. R. Lees and C. E. Murphy, two members of the general committee of the Automobile Association (Manawatu) who are candidates for seats on the Palmerston North City Council at the forthcoming elections, were expressed by the president, Mr. W. H. Brown, at a meeting of the committee last mght. Reference to the passing of Sir Charles Luke, of Wellington, was made at the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday, when a resolution of condolence with the family was carried in the customary manner. Sir Charles was for seven years chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board and had held the office of vice-president of the Hospital Board’s Association.
