Fines and Penalties
MAGISTRATE’S COURT PROCEEDINGS Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided at tho sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Palmerston North yesterday. Walter Haliidav, of Waipawa, a soldier from Foxton Camp, charged with assaulting another soldier, Leonard James Anstess on Saturday night in the Square, was remanded to appear before tho Court again on April 18. Bail of £IOO was granted. It was slated that Ansticss was in hospital injured. Keg. Goffe, a farm labourer of Karnuhata, admitted being intoxicated while in charge of a car coming from tho Awapuni race course. He was fined £lO with £1 Is costs and his license was cancelled for 12 months. John Joseph Hodgens, a seaman, was remanded to Hamilton to answer a breaking, entering and theft charge. W. T. Algie tailed to give way to traffic on his right and paid a penalty of 30s with 10s costs. Defendant was involved in a minor collision with an ambulance in Cuba Street. W. Carey, hotel licensee, was lined £5 with 10s costs for selling liquor after hours and his barman, A. Collis, £3 with 10s costs for supplying after hours. G. W. Gedson and A. Noil who were caught on the premises ofter hours, were each fined £1 with 10s costs. C. J. Sims was fined £1 with 11s costs for casting offensive matter in a shop doorway.
