Rongotea
(From Our Own Corresponucnt.) The first of a series of dances and euchre parties to be held under the auspices of the local Patriotic Committee attracted a good attendance. It is proposed to hold a euchre tournament each fortnight combining’ with a dance each month aud a substantial points prize has been offered for the former. Winners of the various dance competitions were as follows:—Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss Kathleen Hill and Mr. J. Luxford; Monte Carlo, Miss Mary Powell and Mr. Murray; Lucky .Spot, Miss Sheila Knox and Mr. Boswell. Prizes in the euchre tournament were annexed by:—Ladies, Mrs. Slattery I, Mrs. W. Hill 2; men, T. Dyer 1 and J. Hancox 2. Home Guard and E.P.S. There was again a good attendance of the Home Guard under Mr. W. Foster and S.M. Wenborn. Mr. Foster gave a lecture on how to make all possible use of natural cover, giving hints from actual experience. Further interest in the E.P.S. was stimulated by the attendance of Mrs. Neil Rowe who gave a talk on haemhorrage, followed by practical demonstration of the use of the roller bandage for various purposes, after which ihose present tried their hand with a fair measure of success. Mrs. Rowe has consented to attend again at the next parade and give further instruction. Packing Parcels On Wednesday evening a large band of ladies assembled to pack parcels for local boys who are serving overseas. A quick canvass had speedily assumed that sufficient cakes would be on hand, with the result that the party were able to send a good parcel to each soldier. The cost of sending the parcels was easily met, owing to the generosity of the Te Kawau Accordion Band, who had made a donation, with the request that it bo specially earmarked for this purpose. Horticultural Society The committee met on Thursday evening at the home of the president, Mrs. A. J. Will. The secretary presented the report for the autumn show which showed a credit of a little niOiC than two pounds. It was decided to make an effort to raise funds to procure large vases for the exhibition of large dahlias and also for coverings for stands. The date of the annual meeting was fixed for Tuesday, May 13. The question of including ‘vegetables for competition at the Bpring Show w r as discussed and classes for these were arranged.
