(From Our Own Coriespondent.) There was a poor attendance at the annual meeting of the Hall Committee considering the importance of tho subject. The necessity for public halls in country districts needs no emphasis but the apathy shown by residents is a handicap to any committee handling hall affairs. Mr. H. Redpath was elected to the chair and prior to the commencement of business, the meeting stood as a mark of sympathy to tho late Mr. J. Ellery who had taken a great interest in hall matters and had served on the Committee ably and willingly. The statement of receipts and expenditure was presented by the secretary (Mr. W. Robinson) and showed a small credit of £l7 10s 9d and outstanding receipts of £3. The election of officers resulted as follows: Chairman, Mr. Vile; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Robinson; committee, Mesdames W. Robinson and E. Ingram, and Messrs. H. Masters, H. Whitehead, L. Kobcrstein, N. Leet, H. Kedpath, E. Ingram, H. Ellery and D. Ellery. In commenting on the financial position, Mr. Vile paid a tribute to the careful husbanding of resources tho •jecretary had exercised and stated that the credit was too small to allow any expensive work to be done. With so many other calls on residents, he did not think the time opportune to do much to raise hall funds although there was room for great improvements and urgent repair work. It. was decided to make a nominal charge of five shilings for the use of the hall for Patriotic purposes. Mrs. Robinson, on behalf of the Women’s Institute, asked that assistance be given in re decorating the hall and in tho purchase of decorations. It was decided to purchase decorations and erect same next Tuesday evening. It was also decided to erect additional ’ shelves in the kitchen. There was discussion on the inadequate parking area 1 around the hall and it was decided to 1 investigate the matter and endeavour i to have improvements carried out.
