Banking Not Favoured

It was reported at a meeting of the Alanawatu-Oroua River Board yesterday that the Government had carried out banking and willow-planting on.an accretion of riverbed on the banks of IHe Manawatu River below Shannon, next to a flax development area. The opinion was expressed that this work would throw the flow of the river in flood periods on to the opposite bank and might result in serious damage. The board decided to arrange an inspeetion of the area with a view to seeking the removal of some of the trees so that the river would not be confined to too SAUOw a channel*
