Invitation to Mr Willkie
Australia’s Gesture NEW ZEALAND WILL FOLLOW SUIT Fer Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. If Mr. Wendell Willkie is able to accept an invitation extended to him to visit Australia, he is to be invited by the New Zealand Government to make a visit to the Dominion. Mr. Willkie recently returned to America from a visit to Great Britain and Ireland, and a few days ago it was reported there was a possibility of him visiting China, but it was later announced that this was now unlikely. A cable message from Sydney to-day stated that the Acting-Prime Minister of Australia (Mr. Fadden) had announced that the Commonwealth Government had invited Mr. Willkie to visit Australia, and that the Government was awaiting advice regarding Mr. Willkie’s intentions on his return to New York this week. “We will certainly support the invitation,” said Mr. Fraser, when asked this evening if the New Zealand Government was likely to ask Mr. Willkie to come to New Zealand. “In the event of his being able to accept the invitation to Australia, we will be very glad to welcome him here or, for that matter, any representative public man from America.”
