In Celebration of a Diamond Wedding

MR. AND MRS. M. WEEKS HONOURED The important milestone of the diamond anniversary of their wedding was celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. A£ Weeks at the homo of their daughter, Mrs. L. Beals, IS Lombard Street, last Saturday afternoon. Twenty-five guests sat down to a sumptuous breakfast, the tables being beautiful with mauve and pink asters and gypsophilia, and a wedding cake decorated with white and gold was much admired. Hon. Mark Briggs proposed the toast of the bride and ’groom, saying he had known them many years and always found them good citizens and an example to all who came in contact with them. Young people would do well to emulate them. Mr. Iven Beals replied in feeling terms on behalf of his grandparents. Mr. F. Robertson, an old friend, proposed the toast of Mrs. L. Beals; Mr. Ken Beals responded. The toasts were drunk with musical honours. Mr. and Mrs. Weeks received a large number of presents, including some beautiful flowers, and telegrams of congratulations from the following:—Rt. Hon. Peter Fraser (Prime Minister), Mr. and Mrs. Clarke (Waimana), Mr. Bray and family (Auckland), Mrs. Rosa (Wellington), Mr. and Airs. 4 Parker (Auckland), Air. B. Bray (Hastings). Air. and Airs. Weeks were married on February 15, 1881, in the Independent Church, Shipton Malet, Somersetshire, England. They left England on the s.s. Tainui on September 17, 1888, arriving at New Plymouth on November 3 the same year, where they lived for three years. They also resided in Inglewood for 13 years and one and a-half years in Hawera, when they came to reside in Palmerston North in 1906, living first in Alonrad Street and latterly in Lombard Street. About three years ago

they sold up their home and went to live in Hastings with their grand daughter, but last year returned to live with their only daughter. Air. and Airs. .Weeks have very good health, although Mrs. Weeks has been confined to her bed during tho past six months, and both are very bright and cheerful considering their great age, Airs. Weeks being 88 and Mr. Weeks 84. Air. and Mrs. Weeks have one daughter, four grandchildren and four great-grand-children. A sister, Airs. Carey, lives in Wellington.
