Conversion of Car

PAINTER BEFORE COURT Before Messrs. M. A. Eliott and T. R. Lees, J.P’s., Alan McDonnell, painter, of Auckland, was charged in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday that, on January 11, at Stratford, lie unlawfully and without colour of right, but not so as to bo guilty of theft, converted a motor-car, valued a i £ls, to his own use, the car being the property of Alexander Buchan Cameron. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said that accused, who pleaded guilty, walked from New Plymouth to Stratford and became wet through in rain. He spent some time in an hotel and on coming out saw the car and drove it away, as far as Patea. There he left it and eventually came to Palmerston North. On Wednesday evening he spoke to a constable and told lrim about the episode, accused’s conscience evidently troubling him. The Bench convicted accused and ordered him to come up for sentence within six months if called upon.
