American Public Behind Defence Speed-up

GALLUP SURVEYS REVELATIONS NEW YORK, Jan. 5. A Gallup survey of 20 aspects of defence showed that 89 per cent, favoured factories working three shifts; 75 per cent, of the workers questioned were willing to work more hours weekly at the same hourly rate to speed up defence, thus sacrificing overtime pay, and 61 per cent., including low income 1 groups, thought defence workers should not be allowed to strike. Summing up, the survey stated: “Even the most rabid advocate of military preparedness may be surprised to discover how far the public are willing to go in re-arming. The situation is very similar to that on conscription. Even the keenest politicians were unaware how far public opinion had gone."
