Eight Killed by Raiders
71 REPORTED MISSING MELBOURNE, Jan. 6. Seven Europeans and one Filipino are known to have been killed ou board vessels sunk by enemy raiders off the New Zealand and Australian coasts. Sixty-seven Europeans ace reported to be missing and believed prisoners of war. Four Filipines are missing and believed killed. This is revealed in a casualty list issued by the Navy Office. The list covers ten ships, but it is officially stated that the information of the casualties is incomplete, particularly in respect to the Rangitane and Turakina. The killed include: — The Komata: Messrs. T. A. Mack (chief officer), L. Hughes (second officer). The Rangitane: Misses D. Beatson, E, Herbert-Jones, U. Scott, Mrs E. Davies, Mr. J. Y. Dixon, all of whom ere British children escorts returning to England. Another escort, Mr. A. Tocher, is missing, his fate being unknown.
Mr. J. Douglas, second engineer of the Triaster, previously reported safe, is now missing. Twenty-three out of the 58 members of the crew of the Turakina are missing and believed to be prisoners in a raider.
