ROOSEVELT BUILDING HOMES FOR DEFENCE WORKERS Received Monday, 7.30 p.m. WASHINGTON, Jan. 5. Thirteen American- Federation of Labour metal trades affiliates are seeking the industry’s co-operation in drawing up agreements providing voluntary arbitration to guarantee that there will be neither strikes nor lockouts and no stoppage of work. Wimultanoously President Roosevelt has ordered the building of 639 G of more housing units in eleven localities to meet the acute shortage of facilities likely to impede national defence. The Defence Commissioner (Mr. Leon Henderson) has invited representatives of the woollen manufacturers to confer on Tuesday in the hope of achieving the “reconsideration of any contemplated price advances.”
