Dog Attacks Boy. A young boy, James Vita, is in the Cook Hospital in a serious condition as a result of injuries above and below the eye caused by an attack from a dog. The boy was offering the dog, a golden retriever, owned by the family, a bone when it suddenly flew at him, catching him with its teeth around the eye. The Rat Nuisance Rats have become so numerous in the area around Duthie Street, Karori, that some of the residents are contemplating appealing to the Wellington City Council to undertake poisoning on a large scale. Gorse was recently cleared from a gulJy where some rubbish had been dumped, and it is thought that the rats have left the gully to take up residence in the vicinity o-f nearby *hornes. Saved From Drowning. A girl, aged 18, Ruby AlcKay, owes her life to the prompt and plucky action of her brother, Leslie, aged 15, who jumped fully clothed into the river and supported his sister until assistance arrived. Aliss AlcKay fell from the railway bridge at the Willows into the Waiapaoa River. Knowing that she could not swim, her brother immediately jumped in after her and managed to hold her up until a boat was brought to the scene. Aliss McKay was taken to the Cook Hospital suffering from shock and a dislocated jaw. Three Toes Severed A painful accident was suffered by Gordon Parker, aged 17, of 4 Ranfurly Street, on Saturday afternoon when he had a foot caught in the rear sprocket wheel of a motor-cycle at the Esplanade and suffered the loss of three toes. The youth had been swimming with a group of other boys and was a pillion rider on a motor-cyclo ridden by Ashley Janies Greer, of Te Awe Awe Street. The latter started the machine by pushing it and intended to stop to allow Parker to mount, when the latter attempted to jump on as the cycle was moving. One foot, clad in a tennis shoe, became entangled in the back wheel and tho end of the shoe, with three toes, was severed. The youth was immediately taken to the hospital by a motorist.
