Ufrom Our Owu Coirespon&enM On Friday evening last about 50 relatives and friends paid a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Murray Thompson who had just returned from their wedding trip. The young couple welcomed their visitors in the garden where games were played on the lawn until darkness fell, when all adjourned to the house. Mr. A. McDonald, a neighbour and friend of the family, proposed the toast to the bridQ and bridegroom to which Mr. Thompson responded, after which the evening was Bpent in music and dancing, interspersed with competitions. Supper was served and cheers given for the bride and bridegroom’s parents. Friends and relatives gathered at the local hall last Saturday evening to honour Mr. and Mrs. Murray Thompson. The large crowd present was an indication of the popularity of these two young people. A large array of usetul and beautiful gifts was displayed. Mr. 8. A. Meads, in asking Mrs. Thompson to accept the gifts, said the best wishes of those present went with them. Mr. Thompson suitably responded. The evening took the form of a dance to music supplied by Messrs. D. Carr aud F. Clark. Two tap dancing items were supplied by a visitor from Wellington. Supper was provided by the ladies. A jolly children’s party was held on Christmas Eve. There were not as many present as on similar occasions, but those present enjoyed themselves. Sweets, etc., were distributed amongst tho children and a ladies’ committee provided supper. After the children’s dances, the adults took the floor, music being,supplied by R. and M. Thompson and Misses R. and L. Thompson and R. Hancock* Music for the children’s dances was supplied by Mrs. McNeely. Mr. Meiklejohn 'acted as M.C. for the children. Farmers are taking full advantage of tho fine weather to complete their harvesting operations. -Over the holidays picnics were the order of the day. Mrs. W. Hope, of Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs. Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. W. Tompkins, of New Plymouth, were visitors to Mr. and Mrs. Copper. Mias Couper, of Timarii, is visiting relations in the district. Miss J. Hyde, of Wellington, with three evacuee children from Scotland, is spending a holiday with her mother at Rangiwahia. Mr. and Mrs. Williams have returned to Wellington with their son, Mr. L. Williams, R.N.Z.A.F., after spending Christmas with Mrs. T. H. Thompson. Miss Z. Williams, of Wellington, is visiting relations and friends in the district. Mr. and Mrs. N. Amaaio and M. SAywell are touring in the Hawke’s Bay district. Mr. and Mrs.. H. Maloney, of Palmerston North, are visiting Mrs. D. Martin. Mr. Ron Stantiall, formerly of the local Post Office staff, is visiting friends here prior to his entering camp with the Territorials.
