(From Our Own Correspondent.) Defence Rifle Club’s Open cflampionsnip
On New leafs Day the annual open championship ladies’ shoot and picnic outing was nold on the rifle range. The conditions for shooting proved difficult all day and only average scoring resulted. Rifleman P. Maurice scored tho only possible. The opeu championship cup was won by Sergeant It. E. Stuart, 97, of 6th M.M.8., and he was closely followed by Riflemen R. K. McLeavey, K. S. Komley and R. A. Jones, all 96. The handicap aggregate over the day was won by Mrs. It. A. Jones 100, witJi Rifleman K. 1. liomley, T. C. Romley and W. A. Cook in close attendance with 99.
Tho entries for the ladies' shoot were below previous years' averages. The lady champion proved to be x\liss Beth Romley with 32 out of the possible 35. The trophy for the. lady who had previously competed was won by Miss Zena Cook 29. Tho trophy for best score by lady who had not previously competed was won by Mrs. Parlane (Glen Oroua) 30. Coining of Age Party An enjoyable evening was spent at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. P. Wilkin, Ashhurst, to celobrate the coming of age of their only son, Martin. Mrs. and the Misses wilKins received the guests, Mrs. Wilkin wore a navy and white shear frock. Mias Joyce Wilkin wore a black shear trimmed with white lace and Miss Myree Wilkin a green silk linen. The programme consisted of games, cards and community singing' witn Mrs. NeiDat the piano. At supper pride of place was given to the artistic- j ally decorated birtnday cake with 21 j kowpies which had been made and iced by Miss M. Wilkin, Mr. G. Neil proposed the toast of the guest of the evening to which Mr. Martin Wilkin suitably replied thanking everyone for honouring him and expressing appx’cciatiou to his parents for the evening.
