R.A.F. Active Over North Africa

NIGHT RAID ON BARDIA (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Jan. 2. A communique by the R.A.F. in the Middle East states: “During the night of December 31 and January 1, R.A.F. bombers carried out raids on aerodromes at Tmimi and Gazala, and further raids on the same landing grounds were made yesterday. At Gazala, three enemy aircraft were destroyed and a number of others seriously' damaged. Alll the bombs burst in the target area at Tmimi, causing fires and damage to dispersed aircraft. 1 ‘ Bardia was raided last night, and while all the bombs burst in the objective area, details of the damage were not observed. “Derna was attacked yesterday, and one grounded aircraft suffered a diroct hit and a number of others were pro bably damaged. “In Italian East Africa, Rhodesian aircraft destroyed a number of buildings near Sabbcrat, while other aircraft of fthe same squadron carried out a dive-bombing attack on enemy positions at Keru, 50 miles east north-east o Kassala. Motor transport vehicles were destroyed, one very largo fire was started, and several anti-aircraft guns were silenced.

“From all these operations our aircraft returned safely.”
