Foxton Beach

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Christmas holidays were ushered in with line weather and the influx of visitors began in earnest on Christmas Eve, continuing without a break over Boxing Bay. Barge crowds spent that day at the seaside also and an air of festivity was apparent as in previous seasons. A tour of the reserve revealed the usual well-appointed camps and a generous sprinkling of caravans, twites in the Ball reserve are fully booked up now that tne water problem has been solved, and the flow of cold artesian water will be much appreciated by later campers who often had to go short in a dry season and in some cases curtail their holidays on that account. The site allotted to the caravan club is one of the best on the beach and it is anticipated that the coming season will bring caravanners in ever-increasing numbers. Visitors will be well catered icr again this year. The Alanawatu Boating Club’s second regatta will be held to-day January 2, w r hen there promises to be plenty of outside competition. Several dances have also been arranged in support of candidates in the Queen Carnival and to help along the various organisations actively connected with the beach. Card evenings will also be held. Dances The Manawatu Heads branch of the Labour Party set the social ball rolling on Boxing night when the annual dance was held. The large crowd of young people present brought with them the happy-go-lucky air so essential to the success of beach dances and which is a feature of these entertainments. Winners of the Lucky Gay Gordons were Miss Helm and Mr. J. {Smith, Monto Carlo, Mr. and Mrs. Findlay. A tapdance item by Mr. Ted Bhortt was much appreciated. Sports’ Queen A dance was held on Friday evening in support of the Sports’ Queen candidate, Miss Peggy Coley. The Queen Carnival is being conducted in Foxton and district to supplement the quota for the Heart-to-Heart Appeal.
