Time, 1.12 3-5. (Winner trained by owner, Wanganui.) Kingcraft Never Headed. Wildfire and Ringcraft were the favourites for the Alaiden Race and both were in the money, Ringcraft lead- J ing all the way. He jumped out smart-j ly with Inform, the pair being followed along the back by Ninia and Wildfire. Smiling Morn and March Easy improved their positions crossing the top, but in the straight Ringcraft strode on for an easy win by a length and a-half from Inform, with Wildfire, five lengths away, just beating Greek Idol for third place. Hokumai Won Well. Hokumai sprang a double-figure surprise in the Ladies ’ Braclet, beating the well-backed Doctor Defoe and Pitmark. Parekura was taken into the lead running for the back stretch, and then Seyfried joined him, only to give way to Doctor Defoe half a mile from home. Hokumai was steadied in the early stages, but finished well to cut down Doctor Defoe, winning by a length, with Pitmark a length and a-half away, followed by Luath, Idalian and Parekura. Lady Acora Finished Fast. Soutane was backed down to a short price for tho Juvenile Handicap, but was well beaten by the second favourite, Lady Acora, who is trained on the course by F. AlcHugh. Soutane jumped out smartly, but Leisurely soon joined her. They were followed by Lady Acora to the straight, where Lady Acora shot through on the inside and ran away for a two-length victory. Leisurely was three lengths away, ahead of Amorangi and Greek Step. Haile Selassie all the Way. A surprise was in store for backers in the Rata Hack Hurdles, Haile Selassie making the pace all the way and hanging on too well for Great Quex and Scgra, the favourite pair. Great Quex moved up to challenge Haile Selassie half a mile from home, but was under pressure and Haile Selassie went on to win gy six lengths. Segra came from well back to get third place, a length away, followed by Selkirk and Prinihia. The Buzzer Impressive. Backers made Tho Buzzer favourite for the Alarton Cup, and they proved correct, for the topweight scored going away, but not till Amigo had threatened to upset the “good thing.’’ Old Surrey was in front as they ran out of the straight, with Dark Eagle and Amigo just behind them and The Buzzer next. Just as they passed the judge's box the first time Globe Trotter appeared to get on the heels of Laughing Song and fell, his rider, R. E. Humphries, breaking a collarbone. Amigo ranged alongside the leader five furlongs from home and was in front with half a mile to go, Dark Eagle and The Buzzer being next and Dynasty appearing to dislike the hard track. The Buzzer flung out a challenge below the distance and sustained it to defeat Amigo by three-quar-ters of a length. Dark Eagle was three lengths back, third, with Old Surrey fourth and Dynasty and Laughing Song following. Night Eruption Beats Black Robe. Night Eruption, backed down to a short price, finished fast to catch Black Robe in the last fifty yards of the Railway Handicap. Black Robe was the pacemaker throughout, and she was followed along the back by Race Call, Grandora, Colossal Chief and Night Eruption. The last-named moved up crossing the top and sustained her challenge in the run to the judge to win by t hree-quarters of a length from Black Robe. Half a length back was Grandora, a head in front of Colossal Chief Chary was next. Curtail Pays a Price. Gold Bridge, favourite for the Now Year Handicap, failed badly, the winner turning up in the Wanganui-owned Curtail, who returned a double-figure dividend. Curtail was always tho leader, and he was followed down the back stretch by Talenta, Royal Consort and Gold Bridge. Over the concluding stages Curtail drew away to win by two lengths, Talenta beating Rose Acre by a neck for socond place, with Arabic only a head further away. Then came Renascor and Gold Bridge. Miss Leighon Won Decisively. Well placed in the run to tho straight Miss Leighon finished brilliantly to win the Dash Hack Handicap in particularly fast time. Golden Pam and Newbury Queen set the pace end over the last bit Miss Leighon drew out to win by over a length from Golden Pam with Gemara and Vietoire almost in line.
