Ferrier Leads Amateurs in Miami Open

Received Sunday, 8.30 p.m. MIAMI (Florida), Dec. 13.

Jim Ferrier (Australia) led the amateurs at the Miami Beach open golf tournament with a total of 138. Byron Nelson is leading the field with 134, Hogan 336, Loving 137. One player (Healner) is at present unaccounted for but ho will need par over the last two holos to equal Nelson which will place Ferrier either fourth or fifth.

In the third round Ferrier returned a 76 giving him a total of 214 for 54 holes. He finished in a tie with Earl Christiansen, of Miami, leading the amateur field but was behind eighteen professionals who had 213 or better. Byron Nelson is leading with 201. Ferrier had excellent drives but

seemed to lose his putting touch taking bogeys which he should have played under par. His 214 was four above par, including to-day’s 76. Ferrier who was angry declared: “To-morrow T 1 will burn up the course.” Seven professionals also tied with 214.
