CRICKET IN FEILDING

First Defeat for Public Service

FEILDING GO UNDER TO NOMADS Cricket in Feilding on Saturday proved quite interesting and witnessed the first defeat of the season for Public Service, who failed against a strong batting effort of Old Boys. .Service lost a couple of good wickets when Smith nnd Packer went cheaply early in the game, but Hart, Wilson and Randolph held their end up to assist the score along to 141. J. Dewe captured four of the wickets for 17. Replying, Old Boys knocked up 223 in a sparkling innings. Jimmy Dewe batted solidly for a tally of 70 and Fletcher retired after supplying a skilfully played 44. The field play was quite good, particularly the catch taken by Hart in the outfield off H. Dewe, who drove for the boundary, with a mighty hit. Nomads secured the verdict against Feilding, making 176 against their opponents’ 00. Batting find, Nomads had a merry innings, all but lour bats getting into double figures. Donaldson captured six wickets for 60 runs and R. Garlick caught three bats in the outfield., Batting strength was weak in the Feilding eleven, the only worthwhile partnership being that of Donald son and Mingins, who contributed 68 of the score of 99. Thompson took a brilliant catch when he dismissed R. Garlick, and M. Dermer collected his brother Arthur with a. pretty catch. These one-day matches are proving quite entertaining, although there is still a shortage of personnel. In the junior game Old Boys defeated High School. Details are as follows: — NOMADS v.
